Poetry: Lit By Song

During the last few years, I've been writing a poem each day and posting it on Facebook. Most of my poems are celebrations of natural beauty; a few are ethical/political commentaries with some bite.

Lit By Song

No one knows
why chickadees
have begun to sing
in this frozen February
but they do
every day
as honey-hued light
pours into this icy world

and white-throated wrens
who have just 2 notes
but know how to bend them
croon from treetops
to wake up
their neighbors
and call us towards
Spring.

Not all chose
to be here
and some of us remain
because stubborn pushed too far
strongly resembles stupid
nevertheless
we persist
in this ice palace
lit by song
given freely
to all who have ears
in their hearts
that open both ways.
