Word to the Wise: Hygge
Hygge
(pro-nounced hoo-guh)
Rev. Ted Tollefson
Imagine family and friends gathered around a winter fire. The Danes have a word for it.
It's cold outside, but we can be comfy, a hot drink in our hands wrapped in the joyful coziness of being close to those we love.
The Danes have a talent for this feeling of contentment and well-being.
They have built a culture around it bolstered by universal health-care, basic income, and a persistent love of hygge.
Out of this feeling of cozy contentment comes a deep and persistent sense of well-being, quiet joy, and delight in the simple pleasures of life.
We know where we belong and it is good to settle into this simple abundance.
On a good Sunday morning, our congregations radiate Hygge in all directions--- the mind is stimulated, the heart warmed and belly filled.
Hygge might be a cure for the "Winter Blues". Snow, big winds and maybe ice are predicted for this weekend,
so let's snuggle up close with someone we love
and Hygge our way into a state of bliss.
