"Reflections on American Democracy"

Join us Sunday, November 11 at 10am for a discussion about the structure of democracy.

It is not about issues of the day. The moderator, Gary Stone, will steer us away from discussing current issues and put us back on course. Please do your homework as you follow the current election commentary.

Prepare to discuss important questions about:

  • what democracy is

  • what is its purpose

  • how it can enhance a stable society

  • how it can unify or divide

  • what are the threats to it

Please be prepared to respond to the assertion that democracy can only help a community make decisions when the community has a fundamental sense of agreement about who it is.
If that agreement is not present, then any decision will not function as legitimate and the loser will not recognize it as binding.

At its heart, the fundamental questions in politics that determines everything else is

“What is the commons?” and “ Who is the freeloader?”
