Poetry: Midwinter's Spring
During the pandemic of this year, I've been writing a poem each day and posting it to Facebook. Most of my poems are celebrations of natural beauty; a few are ethical/political commentaries with some bite.

Midwinter’s Spring
©2022 Rev. Ted Tollefson
Though the branches are still bare
spring begins in tree-tops
where chickadees and sparrows
are gathering to weave
a canopy of grace notes.
When we reach out
through the ears in our hearts
we can hear the news
that even this winter
will pass
and somewhere
but not in Texas
spring has already begun.
Even Old Norwegians
have tears in their eyes
and are almost ready
to risk everything
peel off their permanent thermals
and maybe even grin
as they offer a few crumbs of thanks
to these tiny feathered angels
who weave for us
a garment made of song
so Spring can find us
