Poetry: Spring Rain
During the pandemic of this year, I've been writing a poem each day and posting it to Facebook. Most of my poems are celebrations of natural beauty; a few are ethical/political commentaries with some bite.

Spring Rain

After spring rain there is much to do:
peepers and leopard frogs are chanting
as if the Buddha of Invincible Light will soon appear
and S/he might.
A bird choir is casting about
looking for songs to honor
cool damp air and a light breeze
that now envelops them
and soothes their ruffled feathers.
Grasses and medicinal herbs we sometimes call weeds
are bowing low in this wind
giving thanks for the rain
that fills their green cups
and strengthens roots we cannot see.
And how about us?
Has Old Thunder passed over one more time?
Did we awaken once more with eyes dampened
by the dew of tender dreams?
In this world we share for awhile
what calls out to you to be admired, loved up
or watered with kindly attention?
