Poetry: January Bliss

During the pandemic of this year, I've been writing a poem each day and posting it to Facebook. Most of my poems are celebrations of natural beauty; a few are ethical/political commentaries with some bite.

You can see more poems by visiting my new Facebook page.

January Bliss

On a day that may soar into the high 30's

many things seem possible

that just last week could not happen--

but that was 50 or 60 degrees colder--

remember?

Old cars and old bodies

that do not want to be started

now are crooning about "the open road",

a possible bath or shower

and maybe even an extra lap

around our meadow at mid-day

dog-willing.

We start to imagine impossible things:

birds may chance a mid-day song

as we start to hum old beloved hymns

under our breath

because the Resurrection we call Spring

is just around the corner

and our bodies

now freed of extra padding

may want to dance in the sun's warmth

and move a little “breathe of life.”

as we dive into this wave of January Bliss.
